ELKHART COUNTY – Police scoured an Elkhart County home on Monday looking for answers in the murder of a man found in a barrel in the St. Joseph River.
A month ago, 44-year-old Mark Miller was found dead, two weeks after his family reported him missing.
Investigators spent the day tearing apart a home on Doris Rd., just off State Road 120.
At the scene, WSBT saw them taking away a few guns, which looked like rifles, several bags of things from inside the home. They also went through the garage top to bottom. Police rummaged through the backyard shed and a car in the front lawn. They also took a lot of pictures.
No arrests have yet been made from Monday’s investigation. Police still have to process all the material they retrieved from the home.
Around 10 a.m. on Monday, WSBT saw 6 detectives and a crime scene investigation truck at the home.
Neighbors tell WSBT the people who live there are their friends. They’re confused and want answers.
“They’re good neighbors; they keep to themselves,” said Jeff Mahoney.
“I’ve been here 15 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this out there, never,” said neighbor Jeri. It’s unnerving."
The neighbors said they heard loud noises outside Sunday and Monday. One heard gunshots. The other describes the sound as an explosion.
The lieutenant on this investigation says they might have been hearing flash bang grenades but wouldn’t say anything else about those noises.
