For the first time Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly spoke to reporters Tuesday about the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax and Kelly’s flirtation with the National Football League.
While on a recruiting trip, he spoke to reporters over the phone.
Kelly said he first heard from Te'o on December 26 about the possibility of a hoax.
Kelly says everything he's heard since matches what Te'o told him about the fake girlfriend that supposedly died from cancer last September.
Many fans wonder if the stress of this situation affected Te’o's performance in the national championship game with Alabama.
“No, I didn’t sense it really,” Kelly assessed. “Manti’s a young man that continues to lead, and you don’t really see him, cause obviously he went through a tough time. I just didn’t see it in practice and leading up to the game”
Kelly also talked about his interview with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles after the championship game, calling it more of a discussion than an interview.
Kelly said his heart is in the college game and at Notre Dame.
