ST. JOSEPH COUNTY -- Early reports that Saturday's fatal home explosion in Indianapolis may have been linked to a furnace problem or natural gas has a lot of people on-edge.

How can you know if dangerous gases are filling your home?

A local hardware store just started carrying a new, multi-function alarm that serves as much more than a smoke detector or carbon monoxide alarm.

The Kabelin Ace Hardware in South Bend says they've started carrying the "First Alert 3-in-1 Explosive Gas and Carbon Monoxide Alarm."

The title says it all -- it detects carbon monoxide and warns about explosive gases like natural gas and propane.

This specific detector is available at various hardware stores and costs about $60.

"If you're sleeping or you've been away for a while and you walk up to the house and hear the alarm going off, you know better than to stick the key in the door because there's a gas leak, so they're pretty important," said Dave Parmelee of Kabelin Ace Hardware.

Experts also suggest you get your furnace checked yearly.

(Correction to the story: The 3-in-1 alarm does not detect smoke)
