SOUTH BEND – He pled guilty to criminal charges, but a man serving St. Joseph County taxpayers says he will not step down.

The Penn Township Advisory Board asked Jeff Dean to quit Tuesday night after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a ghost employment investigation. However, Dean says the judge hasn't accepted his plea agreement yet.

Dean entered that plea last week to official misconduct charges. Prosecutors say he paid his live-in girlfriend more than $37,000 for cleaning work she didn't do.

Dean is due back in court next month.
