Notre Dame's number one status is making for big business, just ask the cashiers at the campus bookstores.

Hank Teahen and his family are 2,000 miles away from home in southern California.

"I mean we've got airfares, hotel rooms, car rentals, this is a real commitment to Notre Dame," said Hank Teahen.

The Teahens flew in for the game.

"Oh my gosh, now Notre Dame is number one," said Hank's wife Linda.

And on Sunday, they were at the campus bookstore.

"I have no idea [what we're buying today], I'm just here with the card, you'll have to talk with my wife and daughter and tell me what I bought."

"A couple t-shirts for my teachers and probably a sweatshirt because it's getting cold," said his daughter, Alexandra. "We're all just a big Catholic family and love Notre Dame," said Linda.

The Padden Brothers share the same family tradition. "Everybody's just extremely excited now we are number one in football," said Daniel Padden.

And that tradition isn't always cheap. "Right now I'm gonna buy a couple pairs of shorts, sweatshirt and I don't know I'm thinking about getting a hat," said Jack Padden.

It's not just the campus bookstore that's seeing a lot of customer traffic, merchandise is also flying off the shelves at the store on Eddy Street.

"My cousin has a newborn so I got a shirt for him and then I have another Notre Dame shirt here, and now that they possibly could be going to the national championship I've got to load up on all the gear," said David Malloy.

All that gear adds up, but fans aren't worried about the price tag because it's all part of family tradition.
