Notre Dame is moving on up!

After stuffing Stanford Saturday at the goal line to take a 20-13 overtime win and improve to 6-0, the Fighting Irish have climbed to No. 5 in both the Associated Press and coaches college football polls.

In the AP poll, Alabama is number one followed by Oregon, Florida, Kansas State and Notre Dame.

LSU, who beat previously No. 3 South Carolina, moved up three spots to 6th. Ohio State climbed a position to 7th despite a scare by IU. The Hoosiers rallied but fell short, losing to the Buckeyes Saturday night, 52-49.

Oregon State is 8th, South Carolina 9th and future Irish opponent Oklahoma rounds out the top ten at No. 10.

Notre Dame visits Norman to battle the Sooners on Oct. 27.

USC, who hosts the Irish on Nov. 24, are No. 11 in the AP poll.

The coaches rank their top 10 Alabama, Oregon, Kansas State, Florida, Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma, South Carolina, USC, and Florida State.

The first official BCS rankings will be released Sunday night.  Jerry Palm, a bracketology expert with CBSSports.com, projects Notre Dame at No. 4.

Palm ranks Alabama number one followed by Oregon, Florida and Notre Dame.

Next up for the Irish will be a home game on Saturday, Oct. 20 against BYU. Kickoff is set for just after 3:30 p.m.
