INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana native and Notre Dame graduate who's commanding the International Space Station will be making a very long distance video call to the Indiana Statehouse.

Astronaut Kevin Ford is scheduled to speak from Earth orbit via video hookup with the Indiana Senate during its meeting Feb. 7.

Ford is from the Blackford County city of Montpelier and his older brother, David Ford, was a state senator before dying of pancreatic cancer in 2008.

A Senate spokeswoman says Ford will have a 20-minute question-and-answer session with senators that will be shown on the chamber's video board and streamed over the Senate's website. Schools around the state are being invited to watch the exchange.

The University of Notre Dame graduate arrived at the space station in October and is scheduled to remain there until March.
