NEW YORK (AP) — A southern Indiana woman who lost parts of both legs while protecting her two children from a tornado has been recognized during a pregame ceremony at New York's Yankee Stadium.
Stephanie Decker, husband Joe and her children were on the field for Thursday evening's ceremony. The Yankees showed a five-minute video about how Decker shielded her children from debris as they huddled in the basement of their Henryville home during the March 2 storm.
Nine-year-old Dominic and 6-year-old Reese joined the Yankees' first base coach in bringing the lineup card out to the umpires.
The Courier-Journal reports (http://cjky.it/IXXDY6 ) the family met Yankee stars Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez and that Decker wrote on her Facebook page that it was one of the best days of her life.
