OSCEOLA – It’s the newest and possibly strangest internet craze – the Harlem Shake.
It’s a viral dance video that a lot of people are copying.
Monday, a group of some 40 Penn High School seniors used their day off to make their own.
WSBT’s Chad Damp was there for the making of the video that’s easier to show than explain.
It’s been done at home, at work, overseas and underwater. For some reason, the Harlem Shake is sweeping the internet, and now it’s come here.
“It went viral, and we thought it would be really funny to get a group together to do it locally, and we just thought it would be funny to mess around with a group of friends.” said Penn senior Holli Dobay.
Instead of sitting at home on Presidents’ Day, Dobay decided to gather dozens of fellow Penn seniors for their own take on this most recent viral trend.
“I think that this is just one of those other things that makes people laugh and gets everybody together,” Dobay added.
The video has two parts – a simple part and a crazy party.
First, they shoot part one – a lone guy in a guerilla mask. That could be called dancing.
Part two includes the rest of the group – time to bring out the costumes, creativity and the crazy.
Dobay and her friends aren’t planning to get a million views on YouTube.
“I don’t even care about that,” she said. “I just thought it would be really funny to do it with a group of friends. I don’t really care if it gets 50 views to be honest with you.”
Just 30 seconds of video but a whole lot of fun and high school memories.
