MISHAWAKA — Police are investigating a report that a man threw a dog out of his moving pickup truck on Monday after the St. Joseph County Humane Society was unable to take possession of it, according to a police report.
Police say the man tried to give the dog to the humane society, which recommended he take it to Pet Refuge or Heartland Shelter.
A short time later, the humane society received a call from a NIPSCO worker stating he had observed a man throw the dog out the window of the truck, police said. Later that day, a water works employee with the city of South Bend brought in a dog he had found wandering the streets.
Humane Society officials confirmed that the dog was the same one brought in earlier that day.
The dog did not appear to have any injuries.
