EDWARDSBURG — A WSBT reporter at the scene says a standoff with an armed man who barricaded himself inside a home near Edwardsburg for most of the day Monday finally gave up peacefully.

This started just after 10 a.m. as a domestic situation, say police, but then the man started making threats with a gun. Police spent the day trying to get him to come out of the home, which is located a half mile east of Redfield Street and Martin Road.

The man was the only person inside the home. He had no hostages.

At one point police shut off power and gas to the house. They say they refrained from entering because they didn't want anyone to get hurt.

Around 11:30 p.m., after using two flashbangs outside the house, he surrendered to police and was taken to the Cass County Jail.

The man's family told our reporter his estranged wife lives at this house, but he does not live there.

Police had the road blocked off throughout the ordeal, but it is now reopened.
