The Indiana Senate's criminal law committee voted 5-3 Tuesday to support the proposal after a lawmaker with multiple sclerosis told it he wished he could legally try the drug to relieve his pain.
Republican Rep. Tom Knollman of Liberty says he's among the most conservative of state legislators but hopes he can be a law-abiding citizen and use one of God's plants.
The proposal sponsored by Democratic Sen. Karen Tallian of Portage would direct the criminal law and sentencing study committee to examine Indiana's marijuana laws next summer and make recommendations. She says she's concerned about the millions spent each year enforcing marijuana laws.
