JACKSON, Mich. (AP) — A psychologist at the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry has determined that a southern Michigan man is mentally incompetent to stand trial in the stabbing death of his mother.
The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (http://bit.ly/XUxX4s ) a hearing on the finding about David Kellen Grow is scheduled for Thursday in Jackson County District Court.
Police and prosecutors say he used a knife to kill 49-year-old Robin Grow at their home in Concord on Feb. 20.
Defense lawyer Andrew Kirkpatrick wants David Grow transferred to the forensic center, where Grow would get treatment.Professionals will regulate his medications and give him counseling, and he could be deemed competent at a later date.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Mark Blumer says his office, which requested the competency evaluation, doesn't plan to contest the center's finding.
