ELKHART – An Elkhart woman's murder conviction could soon be overturned.
53-year-old Lana Canen was convicted of killing Helen Sailor at the Waterfall High Rise Apartments back in 2002.
Canen was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Detective Dennis Chapman had testified in 2005 that he believed a fingerprint on the victim's pill bottle was Canen's.
At a hearing last month, Chapman changed his testimony and said he no longer believed the print on the bottle was Canen's.
The Elkhart County prosecutor’s office has joined the motion to set aside her murder conviction.
Elkhart Circuit Court Judge Terry Shewmaker is expected to rule on the motion soon.
Canen's co-defendant Andrew Royer remains in prison.
He was also sentenced to 55 years.
