If you’re procrastinating about getting your federal and state income taxes done by Monday, the United States Postal Service will not indulge your tarrying.
Post offices will maintain regular hours on Monday, not the traditional extended hours.
Don’t know the hours for the closest post office? Go online to usps.com to verify hours and locations.
USPS offers these tips for last-minute filers:
- Use First-Class postage. The Internal Revenue Service recognizes the First-Class letter postmark as proof a return has been mailed on time.
- Handwritten envelopes must be legible. Use complete IRS location address and zip code. Don’t forget your return address.
- If you’re dropping your return in the mail at USPS blue mailboxes, check the scheduled pickup times to make sure your tax returns will be postmarked April 18.
