While this is serious and thankfully no one was seriously hurt why was another Fire fighter, coming on shift, allowed to use a piece of equipment being evaluated? Obviously the company selling this equipment failed to properly train this tech on the proper care and maintenance of this equipment and he took it upon himself to use what he has used in the past.
As a Captain I would hope more care would have been taken to prevent an experimental unit from having the ability to be accessed but I do think a 30 day suspension is extreme. I cannot believe this act would have been an attempt to hurt a fellow Fire Fighter so why 30 days? Maybe a political foe to the new Chief??
I doubt the Board of Public Safety will go along with any suspension, maybe a written warning.
The tech should of not been preforming this on a in service unit. As a certified fire fighter I can tell you this is extremely dangerous. Once the facemask is sealed there is zero outside air and you are getting 100 percent of what is coming from the tank and regulator. I support this decision...it was careless.
I think smells of racism, I here there is a 9 lawsuit get the 10th free special. Act not this is a limited time offer
