SOUTH BEND – Police are investigating a hit-and-run Sunday morning on the northwest side of South Bend.

Around 9:15 a.m., police and paramedics were called to Brick and Laurel Roads near Clay Township Park and south of St. Patrick’s County Park.

A car hit a pedestrian, who was lying in the middle of the road when crews arrived.

EMS on the scene said the victim suffered some head injuries but was conscious and alert, complaining of back pains.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital.

St. Joseph County authorities told WSBT the unidentified pedestrian was the suspect in the battery of a woman.

Witnesses on the scene told WSBT the man was an African-American probably in his 20s and his clothes were tattered. They saw him lying in the road after the accidents, and officers told him to lie still until the ambulance came.
