Daniel Young was arrested last week after family members allegedly discovered naked pictures of the child on his computer.
Young, who was convicted of child molesting in 2001, has been on the state’s sex offender registry since he was released from prison in 2008.
But, according to prosecutors and police, that fact didn’t stop Young’s behavior.
According to the charging affidavit, Young is accused of trying to destroy his computer after he was confronted by his family.
Police later found the computer’s hard drive on the roof of a nearby building.
Besides graphic photos of the girl, police also reported finding a bag that belonged to him containing condoms, rope, rubber gloves, a hatchet, zip ties and the type of syringes used to give children medicine.
When interviewed by investigators at the Casie Center, the girl told police Young had touched her private areas. She also told police he had forced her to touch his genitals.
Young, after being confronted by police, allegedly admitted to them that he had taken the photographs of the girl, telling officers he “had a weakness.”
Family members also told police that Young had said he “had a relapse,” referring to his interaction with the girl.
Young has been charged with five felonies, including three counts of child molestation and one count each of child exploitation and child pornography.
Young was arraigned in court Monday and his bond has been set at $50,000.
