The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department is asking for your help in finding a man they call a ‘sexually violent predator.’ They warn he should be considered dangerous.
If you see 28-year-old Maurice Ward, contact Major John Boyd at (219) 326-7700 ext. 2406 or call your local law enforcement agency.
Police say in 2004 Ward was convicted of Criminal Confinement – a crime for which he was classed as a sexually violent offender. And in 2010 he was convicted for failing to register as a sex offender.
After he was released from incarceration for that crime, he registered as a sex offender on a quarterly basis. However, police say they recently discovered he was no longer living at his registered address on Poplar Street in Michigan City and had failed to notify authorities.
Warrants have been issued for Ward’s arrest and the United States Marshals Service Sex Offender Investigations Unit has joined the search.
Police say he should be considered dangerous and recently obtained information indicates he may harm himself and others if attempts are made to take him into custody. Call police immediately if you see him or have information as to his whereabouts.
Ward is 6'3” and 215 pounds with a teardrop tattoo under his eye.
