Here's a story we think you're just going to love... A young girl with a huge heart and a major soft spot for more than 50 dogs waiting for homes.

You could easily call sixth-grader Kam Gottlieb a dog lover.

"They're just so cuddly and playful. I don't know, there's something, I've always had a place for them in my heart," said Gottlieb.

Kam vacations with her family in southwest Michigan every summer. Over the years, the Gottliebs have donated toys and food to the humane society there. A couple years ago, Kam decided to do something more.

"So I decided I wanted to do something with animals and shelters and I know a lot of other organizations target that, so I wanted mine to be unique in some way," she said. "So I wanted to do [focus on] the exercise..."

Kam decided to buy the 65 pups a treadmill. She sold bracelets and held fundraisers.

"In my backyard I had a tiki party with a slip-and-slide and I asked my friends to bring $5. They were so generous, most brought more," said Kam.

Once Kam raised $800, she started looking around for a treadmill and came across dogPACER. Company officials were so impressed by her mission, they gave her two treadmills for the price of one and a major discount.

"It was great, it was an extra boost because it was like, now I can do even more to help," said Kam.

She gave one of the treadmills to an animal shelter in Chicago. The other one was delivered Friday to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan.

"Just how rewarding the experience is and just to know that one little treadmill can help so many dogs," she said.

"We actually do a walk where we walk two and a half miles everyday, obviously we don't get to do that January through March, so this treadmill will offer exercise to the dogs that wouldn't get it otherwise," said Jill Svoboda, Humane Society of Southwest Michigan executive director.

Not only did Cam donate this treadmill, her and a friend also made 30 fleece blankets for the dogs to lay on.

"We all get to sleep in our nice, warm cozy beds and the dogs don't really get that privalege, so we just wanted to help out," said Kam.

This isn't just a one time donation. Kam plans to continue raising money to buy more treadmills for dog shelters. If you'd like to help out, visit www.kinetick9s.weebly.com.
