Though spring might be just around the corner, Old Man Winter isn't letting go of Michiana just yet.
According to meteorologists at WSBT, a storm will bring snow throughout today and into Wednesday morning, with the heaviest snow falling this afternoon and evening.
The predicted snowfall for South Bend and areas south and west of the city is 4 to 7 inches. Because the system is tracking southwest, counties that don't often see high snowfalls from lake-effect snow will see high snowfalls from this storm.
A winter storm warning will be in effect for the entire area, except for St. Joseph County in Michigan, from this morning until early Wednesday.
WSBT Chief meteorologist Paul Emmick said some areas may experience wetter, heavier snow with this storm.
"It's two systems joining up to be a real snow producer for us," Emmick said.
The two storms have already produced high snowfalls in the plains, he added.
The storm's behavior is also hard to predict, he said. The storm has a chance to shift farther south.
"It's something that can change hour to hour," he said.
Snow in March isn't unusual, Emmick said. The average snowfall in March is about 7 inches.
