Should South Bend do more to protect whistleblowers? The Common Council is also expected to decide that later this month.
This is a direct response to the wiretapping investigation of recordings at the South Bend police department.
Former police communications director Karen DePeape says the recordings have racially charged comments on them and she took them to then police Chief Daryl Boykins because she thought it was the right thing to do.
DePeape ended up being fired and Boykins demoted.
On June 25 the Council is expected to vote on it. There will be a public hearing before that vote.
And those controversial recordings should now be in the hands of federal investigators. A member of Mayor Pete Buttigieg's staff says the city's legal department mailed the recordings to the Department of Justice last week.
