ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – The City of St. Joseph's long time manager may be leaving sooner than expected.
Frank Walsh says he's been offered a position to manage Meridian Township, near East Lansing.
It's a town of 40,000 people and is where Walsh grew up and is close to his aging parents.
Walsh has been city manager in St. Joseph for 17 years and announced his retirement in December, citing he wanted to be closer to his family.
Walsh was planning to stay on in St. Joe until August and help with the transition but says his new job could start in May or June.
Walsh tells WSBT he has not signed a contract with Meridian Township yet, and specific details about the position are still being worked out but adds he is very excited about the opportunity.

Last month, St. Joseph City Commissioners hired a search firm to help find a new city manager.
Commissioner Mike Garey says the board is looking to have an interim manager named soon to fill any gaps while a new manager is found.
Garey says they hope to have a new city manager hired by June.
