PLYMOUTH – A Marshall County woman will compete in the Olympic games in London next week.

Plymouth native Morgan Uceny will try to become the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the 1500 meter race.

Some in Plymouth say this is the biggest thing to happen there since Plymouth High School won Indiana's 1982 state basketball championship.

The community is showing its support.

During school registration on Wednesday, students and parents signed paper stars. They want to reach 1500, representing Uceny's 1500 meter run.

"They've just been really neat words of encouragement," said Star organizer Kelly Arce. "People will write 'I know your grandpa. He's so proud.' Her fourth-grade teacher wrote 'You were a success then; you're still a success.'"

Uceny's first preliminary race in the 1500 is Monday.
