ELKHART – Word of the advancing winter storm has area street departments gearing up to do battle with old man winter again.
In Elkhart, city street department crews are already mixing up sand and salt that will be applied to local roads.
Plow drivers are working on their trucks to test their plows and salt spreaders.
Some have already been out on their routes, checking them out.
Elkhart, like many local cities, has saved money on salt supplies because of a mild winter last year.
