ELKHART – A teen pleaded guilty Thursday to his role in a deadly home invasion last month. It's a case where a homeowner fought back.

Jose Quiroz, 17, entered the guilty plea to murder. Police say he is one of four teenagers and 21-year-old Danzele Washington who broke into a home on Frances Avenue in Elkhart.

The homeowner was taking a nap at the time and heard a noise. He told police he grabbed his gun and cell phone and went to check it out. Police say he found several people in his home – some armed with knives from the house.

The 54-year old homeowner shot and killed Danzele Washington and injured another intruder. He's been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Also arrested in the crime were Levi Sparks, Blake Layman and Anthony Sharp. They also face trials. Quiroz will be sentenced next month.
