Indiana's unemployment has dropped slightly but local counties are seeing even larger drops. We learned that Friday morning when the state released its September unemployment report.
Statewide unemployment is down just a tenth of a point to 8.2 percent in Indiana, above the national average of 7.8 percent.
Every local county dropped compared to August.
St. Joseph County is down to 8.6 percent in September. It was 9.2 percent in August.
Elkhart County is down to 8.4 percent in September. It was 8.8 in August.
These numbers are bound to be questioned. The drops come even though Indiana says the state lost 6,000 private sector jobs during September. But then the state also says more people entered the workforce.
