The mall is closed. The library is, too. And if those closings don’t tell the story, many area McDonald’s restaurants shut their doors at 10 a.m. today because of the winter storm.
Across the region, parents and kids who are home because of a snow day won’t have much of a choice except, well, to stay home.
Many stores, restaurants and shopping centers across Michiana decided to close today because of the snow emergency. Many manufacturers, offices, banks and other businesses have also chosen not to open their doors.
This is the first time that Irene McKiernan, marketing director at Mishawaka’s University Park Mall, can remember the mall not opening.
"JC Penney opened but quickly determined they were going to close, and the rest of the mall did not open this morning," McKiernan said from home. "Since I have worked here, we’ve always opened and determined later to close midday or toward evening. I don’t think we’ve ever not opened for business on any given morning. But today it’s the responsible thing to do.
But there are some exceptions. A number of grocery stores, including Martin's Super Markets, convenience stores and pharmacies are open today.
