LaPorte-area churches targeted by vandals

Several instances of churches around the LaPorte area being broken into, items stolen and/or vandalized have been reported recently.
  • St. Paul’s Episcopal Church … Someone broke into the church and removed a safe. After prying open the safe, they finding nothing was stored inside.

  • LaPorte Seventh-day Adventist Church … One or more suspects broke into the church between 4 p.m. July 14 and 7:20 a.m. July 15. Perhaps the burglar(s) were interrupted. A flat-screen TV was moved near a door, but nothing was missing.

  • Presbyterian Church of LaPorte … Someone broke into the building between 8 p.m. July 14 and 6 a.m. July 15. Items stolen include a laptop computer, cash, two Phillips 66 gasoline credit cards and an unknown number of XD camera memory cards. 

  • St. Joseph Catholic Church … A statue and the ground around it were set on fire during the early morning hours of July 12. A witness told police he heard a loud bang, but thought it was fireworks. Instead, he saw the statue was on fire.
