They rolled into the travel plaza on the Northern Indiana Toll Road
near Elkhart after spending four days checking out the memorials in
their honor.
Ten buses, 200 military veterans and 100 volunteers were greeted at
the Mile Marker 90 travel plaza Wednesday afternoon by the honor guard
from South Bend's Miller's Vets group.
"We are Vets Roll," said T.J. Flicek from Beloit, Wis., where The Vets
Roll Project was headed back to Wednesday afternoon after three full
days touring veterans memorials from Washington, D.C., to the Flight
93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pa.
"It's remarkable," Flicek said of the Shanksville memorial to the 9/11
plane crash victims. "This is our third time out there; they finally
have the memorial complete. It's a great tribute to the Flight 93
heroes."
Two hundred veterans from Wisconsin, Illinois and other parts of the
upper Midwest rolled out of Beloit in 10 charter buses Sunday.
After spending the night in Pittsburgh, the veterans drove to
Shanksville. From there, they headed to Hagerstown, Md., then on to
Washington, D.C., where they spent the day Tuesday visiting the World
near Elkhart after spending four days checking out the memorials in
