We now know the name of the woman who was found dead behind an Elkhart County home Monday night.
Police say 26-year-old Jessica Marie Starr was murdered in the 28000 block of Melody Lane. They say another woman living at the home called police around 11:30 when she heard screaming.
Police do not have a suspect, although there is a person they want to talk to.
They also haven't released any information about how Starr was killed.
Neighbors, though, are talking. They called her "blondie."
According to a neighbor, she was living in the home with her co-worker and her co-worker’s young son. Neighbors say she was going through a bad breakup and had been staying there on the couch for a few months.
Star's co-worker was the one who called police after she heard screaming. We are told they work together at an Elkhart factory.
Neighbors say Starr was a good person and had a positive attitude despite the trouble she was going through.
“She was just a really nice lady and it is sad,” said neighbor Star Snedeker. “I wouldn't think it would happen to her, because no matter what was going on, she always had a smile on her face. She always tried to be nice to kids.”
“She was always nice,” said neighbor Casey Casselman. “I called her aunty. She was like family, mainly. She always gave me candy. She let me play the Wii. She was a really nice lady.”
Police say no one has been arrested at this point and they are still looking for a suspect. Neighbors say they didn't hear any gunshots last night.
Police say an autopsy to determine a cause of death is scheduled for tomorrow.
