Drivers in the Blackthorn area of South Bend are growing impatient with a traffic hiccup. Many viewers from the area have a Good Question: "Why has the stoplight on Nimtz Parkway been flashing red for months?"

South Bend City Engineer Carl Littrell says work should start on fixing the situation this week, and it should be complete in about a week. He says it’s been out of sorts for about four months since a crash involving a truck. As for why it’s taking so long to fix?

Littrell says an older stoplight sat there, they couldn’t find that kind to replace it. So a new, larger version with new foundation is being installed. And he says not that many people make stoplights, so there not as easy to get as you might think.

These days drivers are seeing a single flashing red light and a stop sign. There’s a toll road ramp in that area also impacted.

The replacement stoplight is supposed to cost around $4,000.
