It’s now been five-and-a-half months since the murders of a southwest Michigan couple and local police are still trying to crack the case.
Joanie Peterson of Niles has a Good Question: “We need to know what police are doing, are they still actively working this case”?The answers are not what people living near Carberry Road want to hear. John and Carolyn Tarwacki were found murdered on February 5 in their home just east of the Niles city limits. The Michigan State Police post in Niles is leading the investigation, and their commander says not much new has developed over the last 30 days.
First Lieutenant Mike Brown says they are still zeroed in on one suspect — A white man seen walking in the area the morning of the murders. But who that man is remains unclear. Brown describes him as 5’10” to 6’1” and slender, between 150 to 165 pounds. At the time of the murders he had dark-colored hair of medium length.
At one point a task force that included several local agencies was investigating this crime. Brown said they are now down to two officers. If you know anything, please call the Michigan State Police post in Niles at 269-683-4411.
Police are still following leads and conducting interviews, hoping to crack the case.
