The woman’s body found near the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus Wednesday evening has been identified.
The victim was 51-year-old Sherese Bingham, who police said was found with a gunshot wound.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Limestone and New York Street, after a bicyclist discovered Bingham’s body on the White River Wapahani Trail in the White River State Park around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators were delayed in investigating the death due to two dogs that appeared to be protecting the body, troopers said.
Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
