Jury deliberates in Charlie White trial Friday

Hamilton County Special Prosecutor Dan Sigler was taken out of the courthouse to receive medical attending after presenting his statement in the case.

Embattled Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White will soon know his fate.  The jury began deliberating Friday afternoon in the voting fraud trial that began early this week.

Closing arguments were delivered in court Friday.  Some drama unfolded as Hamilton County Special Prosecutor Dan Sigler was taken out of the courthouse to receive medical attention for flu-like symptoms, after presenting his closing statement in the case. The court took a short recess following the incident.

The prosecution and defense rested their cases Thursday after a weeklong trial in the Hamilton County Superior Court.  White's lawyer rested without presenting a case before the court.

White is accused of listing his ex-wife's address in another voting precinct across town. However, White claims he had an agreement with his former wife to use her condo as his legal residence before he re-married and bought a new home.

A grand jury indicted White on seven fraud and theft charges, and Governor Mitch Daniels has called on White to resign.

If convicted on any of the counts, White would be forced to step down from his position as secretary of state.
