Police: Cocaine found in 2-year-old girl's system after visiting mom
Cocaine was found in a 2-year-old's system earlier this week, according to a police report.
Indianapolis
IMPD said the case has been handed over to the Department of Child Services. IMPD said DCS is waiting for toxicology results. Fox59 tracked down the 2-year-old's uncle, Donald Faulk. He filed the police report and said he is the young girl's legal guardian. He said he let the young girl stay with her mother on Wednesday.
"To be nice to her mom. It's not good for the kid not to know her parent," Faulk said.
The child's mother, Melissa Lopez, said her daughter could not open her eyes at one point.
"She woke up and said 'mommy my eyes' and she's crying," Lopez described. "She needs to go to the doctor because her eyes stuck together."
Faulk said Lopez is his sister. He said his niece was dropped off back to his home the next morning.
"I came home from the bank and my wife tells me, 'hey, (the) baby (is) back. Your sister just dropped her off. She won't open her eyes," Faulk remembered.
According to the police report, the 2-year-old girl was taken to Wishard. Faulk said the doctors told him "that the baby had crack cocaine in her system and she probably had gotten the chemical in her eyes."
The girl was then taken to Riley at IU Health.
"(It is) devastating. I had some bad thoughts. If I do bad thoughts, its not going to help out the baby. (I'll) let law enforcement handle it," Faulk said.
"There's nothing I need to say. I've done nothing. I have been clean for a very long time," Lopez said.
She said her daughter has an infection in her eyes. Lopez said the first time she found out her daughter may have cocaine in her body was when Fox59 asked her about it.
Lopez: "Do you want a drug test right now?"
Reporter: "I'm just telling you what is in the report."
Lopez responded with: "Bye. Bye."
Reporter: "Is there anything else you want to say?"
Lopez said she has been clean from crack cocaine for about four years.
"This is bull****," Lopez said. "It pisses me off. It pisses me off. It makes me feel like they're trying to take my kid away from me,
"You can get this **** anywhere. She could have been anywhere and touched it," Lopez said.
Faulk said he is concerned about what may have happened.
"Most certainly, who wouldn't be? What parent wouldn't be?" Faulk said.
The 2-year-old girl was released from the hospital Friday afternoon. No charges have been filed against anyone at this time.

Why was there a delay in taking the kid to the doctor? It sounds like there is other issues at play here. Then, slap the crack user for being a female dog to the reporter. She is a liar and I think the uncle is not telling some truth either.
There is a lovely family of educated people who would love a little daughter FOREVER! It is time to rethink out parental and adoption polices. One mess up and you do not need to be a parent. If the drugs are more important, then you do not need to be a parent. Period.

Sir, in this case, I respectfullydisagree, and if you can't see that now, then maybe this child needs a new guardian.
As for the mother (in the biological sense only), this trash should be incinerated.
Seems like the kid needs to be with Donald Faulk 100% of the time.
