Educational fund created to honor couple killed in explosion

An educational fund has been created to honor the victims of an explosion on the city's south side.

Dion and Jennifer Longworth were killed after a home exploded in the Richmond Hill subdivision Saturday.

Dion Longworth worked for Indy Audio Labs for more than a decade and Jennifer Longworth worked as a second grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School.

Indy Audio Labs worked with the Longworth family to create the education fund through the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

A funeral for the couple will be held at the St. Barnabus Catholic Church in Greenwood, Ind., on Monday.

A calling for friends and family will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Wilson-St. Pierre Funeral home in Greenwood, Ind.

Approximately 200 residents were evacuated from their houses following the blast. During a briefing Monday, investigators stated 29 of the 80 affected homes remain uninhabitable.

Sunday night, dozens of people gathered outside Southwest Elementary School to honor Jennifer Longworth, who was a second-grade teacher at the school.

The official cause of the explosion is still being investigated.
