"They looked in and, of course their fur was all matted," said Adkins. "They were weak, I assume from hunger. They were thirsty and people friendly, and glad to be out of that bin."
The entire school stepped up to care for the dogs, until the McFarland family stepped in. Johnny McFarland said his 7-year-old daughter heard the dog's story and that was all it took.
"Krista found out about that and here we are," said Johnny McFarland.
The McFarland family had been toying with the idea of getting a dog for two years, now they are adopting two dogs at one time.
"They seem to be doing very well," said McFarland. "They behave very well, obviously they are relaxed."
McFarland said it is not just about his family adopting a pair of dogs, it is about adding two new members to their family.
"It was funny the other night, we had our children in Richmond and my wife and I were sitting here on the couch alone, and it was like, when our children are gone, there was a part missing," said McFarland. "I think with Milo and Fruit Loop they will probably remind us that they are around."
