Hamilton County, Ind.

More Hoosiers are hitting the water to beat the summer heat. Local marinas report seeing a big boost in boat sales. It's something they haven't seen since 2006.

According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association, 83 million Americans went boating last year and more are expected this year.

Olman Bustamante works at Geist Marina, "Crazy the whole weekend. Crazy good."

Bustamante says boats are selling. At Geist Marina the big seller is the pontoon boat. The NMMA confirming that trend saying pontoon and fishing boat sales are leading the recovery for the industry.

Bustamante says the shoppers are different though than they were 6 years ago, "Yes the sales are up but people are more frugal, pickier with their money."

Last year Geist Marina sold 2 boats by the end of May. This year they've sold 20. The reason for the change in numbers: staff tells us they think buyers are more confident in the economy and they've spend the last 6 years paying off a lot of debts so they feel more comfortable making a big purchase.
