Dario Franchitti prevailed as this year's winner of the 96th Indianapolis 500 mile race.
This is Franchitti's third time winning the Indy500.
"It was exciting. It was really fun. (It was) probably one of the best races that we've had in the last couple (of) year's," Race fan Mike Johns said.
Race fans didn't know Franchitti was going to win the race, until the end.
"I think to see (where) we ended up today says an awful lot of IndyCar, says an awful lot about Dallara, says an awful lot about the teams and the drivers that they're able to take a car that virtually (was) brand new, never run on an oval before, and create such a competitive race," IMS VP of Communications Doug Boles said.
"It's just fun to watch. (The) cars are fast. We come out here for Brickyard, but Indy's still bigger," Johns said.
Besides enjoying themselves at the track, fans enjoyed themselves on the Coke lot. "At the end, it's about my friends coming in from other states and coming to experience it," Tye Burgland said.
After the race, traffic did not stop race fans from, partying. "Tailgate before. Tailgate after," Race fan, Tom Brammer said.
Some people waited for the traffic to clear up. "We're never in a hurry-- ever. Just come out here (and) take our time, get sobered up and go home," Johns laughed.
Boles said besides getting ready for next year's race, within the next two weeks people who had seats for this year's race can renew their seats for next year. Also, switching gears, from the Indy500 to Super Weekend and NASCAR Racing. It is in about 60 days.
