Three weeks after prices dropped close to $3, the average price of a gallon of gasoline was $3.50 Friday morning, according to IndyGasPrices.com.
One week earlier, prices stood at $3.45. One year ago a gallon of gas cost $3.38 and four years ago prices hovered around $1.50.
"As you see I'm not driving the most fuel efficient vehicle there is," commuter Brian Fairley laughed while standing next to his truck. "[Gas prices are] too high. I think everybody believes that."
For Hoosiers considering driving out of town for the holiday, Fox59 News did the math. If gas costs $3.53 and the vehicle gets 25 miles per gallon, the cost for round trip drives from Indianapolis are:
- $52 to Chicago
- $32 to Louisville
- $90 to Cleveland
- $69 to St. Louis
For Fairley and many drivers, that's just too high.
"That's why we're hosting Thanksgiving and not driving," he said.
