Nadine Gentry said her boyfriend, Darrin Anderson, disappeared more than a month ago. Around the same time, there was a fire at her apartment when she was not home. Gentry said she saw Anderson Saturday, August 4th. She said she was at her mother's home. She said she gave Anderson her key in order for him to go back to her apartment to change clothes. Gentry lives at an apartment at Abney Lake. On August 5th, there was a fire at her apartment, but she did not know until the next day.
"I didn't know anything 'til my niece took me home," she said.
Gentry said she walked through her apartment, but only noticed Anderson's shoes. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
"I don't know what's going on. I just want closure," Gentry said.
Exactly one month later, on Wednesday, September 5th, IMPD detectives were called to Gentry's apartment after a neighbor complained about a bad smell. Gentry said she has not lived at her apartment since the fire. IMPD detectives found a body on Wednesday.
"I want to know answers. I want to know what's happening," Gentry said. "Darrin would be right here with me 'cause we're always together. We did everything together," Gentry said. "What really happened? I want to know. I don't see how the fire department didn't see his body. Then a month later this happened. I'm not understanding," Gentry said.
Detectives believe the body was there for some time, but aren't sure how long. They also aren't sure whether someone placed the body there inside the apartment. Anderson's family believes detectives found Darrin. Behind so much mystery, Gentry hopes who they found isn't Anderson. "He was just somebody special to me," she cried. "And, I miss him a lot," she continued.
The coroner's office has not determined the cause of death or the identity of the body that was found. IMPD said their missing person investigation remains open.
