As Tropical Storm Isaac brings flash flooding and mudslides to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Hoosiers are stepping up to help out along the Gulf Coast.
Seven trained American Red Cross volunteers are on their way to Florida ahead of Isaac’s expected landfall early next week.
The storm could strengthen into a category two hurricane by then, packing winds of up to 110 mph.
Volunteers like Frank Kominowski of Martinsville are ready to lend a hand.
“This is just anticipation and preparation,” Kominowski told Fox59. “We're hoping for the best that this is not a big event, but we're preparing for the worst.”
The volunteers will join 28 other emergency response crews moving into the state ahead of Isaac.
