An Indianapolis church extended a hand of thanks to the city's police force with its fourth annual roll call breakfast Friday.
The Father's House organized the breakfast and coordinated with corporate sponsors to provide a gift to officers as a sign of the community's gratitude.
Dr. Chris Holland, the pastor of The Father's House, said it is so important to thank you to the police officers for risking their lives each day to protect people they often do not know.
"My wife's father was killed in the line of duty," Holland said. "[I] spent many years in law enforcement with chaplaincy and other issues, so really it's just an act of love to tell them how much we love them and appreciate them."
Officers received the message with open arms and with their own sense of gratitude.
"This age of the Internet and instant communication, we don't have to come face to fact," IMPD Lt. Don Bender said. "When you come face to face, see somebody smile, see somebody say 'thank you,' hear the words, that presents a human touch that is so important."
