An Indiana University student who admitted he stole a cat from an animal shelter and abused it has a history of cruelty toward animals, according to woman who knows him.
Christopher Gugliuzza told investigators he slapped the cat, tied a cord around its neck and then beat it with a rock. He posted several pictures of his pet cats on his Facebook page.
Investigators said he stole a cat named Lennox from the Bloomington Animal Shelter Monday because he didn’t have any money. Police tracked him down from records of previous adoptions.
According to the Indiana Daily Student, the cat survived and is recovering.
Gugliuzza’s girlfriend told police she tried to stop him from hurting the cat. She said he killed another cat, a third died in its sleep and a fourth ran off with an ankle injury.
According to our newsgathering partners at the Bloomington Herald-Times, Gugliuzza is an Indiana University sophomore majoring in public and environmental affairs.
Police booked him on a preliminary charge of cruelty to animals.
