One tornado came into the town of Newburgh, Ind., off of the Ohio River near Evansville. The tornado touched down in a residential area briefly before picking up again. Roofs were swept away, walls torn down and debris scattered everywhere. Nearly 50 homes sustained damage.
The tornado touched down a second time about two miles closer to downtown Newburgh. Officials said the downtown area sustained the most damage. The business district was off limits as crews worked to clean up the mess Wednesday. Electric crews spent the day restringing wires.
Emergency management officials said the situation is stable.
