A mom is demanding answers from the company responsible for running some of Indianapolis' school buses.
Anita Bell said her son's school bus was shot at on Monday and she still hasn't gotten a straight answer about what happened.
"If they bus driver hadn't said anything I would still not know today."
Bell realized something was going on because her son was two hours late getting home Monday, so she started asking questions.
"We as parents should have been notified about the safety of our children."
Bell's son is 11 years old. He goes to IPS School 48. Monday afternoon on the way home, his school bus was hit by two bullets at 34th and Carrollton. According to the police report, there were "two small bullet holes in the driver's front window of the bus." The bus had 25 students with special needs on it at the time.
Bell's son has severe autism. She says this incident worries her more because he can't tell her what happened.
"I feel they don't care because those children don't have a voice. They can't tell."
IPS said it is the responsibility of Durham School Services to notify parents if something happens on the bus. Fox 59 reached out to Durham School Services but did not get a response.
IPS released the following statement: "We are grateful that none of our students or the bus driver were injured in this random act of irresponsibility. To put the lives of children and the bus driver at risk shows a complete lack of respect for others. We hope those responsible are found and held accountable."
But for Bell she can't help but worry about what else there is that she hasn't been told by the bus company.
"I wanna make sure that he's safe. I wanna make sure he is at school. I wanna make sure he is transported to and from school safely."
