NTSB: No mechanical problems found with plane that crashed in Greensburg, killing four

The NTSB said the Piper Malibu had fuel and appeared to be working well mechanically before plunging into a field in Decatur County.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that they have found no mechanical problems with the single-engine plane that crashed in Greensburg Sunday night, killing four people.

The NTSB said the Piper Malibu had fuel and appeared to be working well mechanically before plunging into a field in Decatur County.

The pilot, Don Horan, died in the crash. Investigators said he was an experienced, licensed pilot with nearly 400 hours of total flying experience.

Horan’s wife Barbara, 44, also died along with two family friends: Stephen Butz, 45, and his wife, Denise, 42. The couples were returning from a weekend trip in Florida. The investigation now turns to how much of a factor weather played in the crash. Conditions in Greensburg were foggy on Sunday night when Horan was attempting to land.

Visitation for the victims is Thursday in Greensburg. Funeral services follow on Friday.
