A young woman who was killed as she walked along Country Club Road has been identified.
Brittany Hill of Avon, 26, was walking south on Country Club Road on her way home. Her boyfriend had seen her 15 minutes before the accident. He described Hill as a fun, loving and caring person. Hill leaves behind a daughter.
"My dad had just come home from one of his classes and he saw three cop cars race towards that way," Susan Adamson said.
IMPD detectives believe Hill was walking in the middle of the lane. The driver told authorities he did not see Hill until the last second. He was driving south on Country Club Road so Hill's back was toward him. Witnesses said the driver of the car was going about 35 mph and swerved. Hill tumbled over the car.
"I just never would have thought someone would've gotten hit over here," Adamson said.
City Council member Janice McHenry, R-District 6, has lived in the area all of her life. She said she has seen more people walking near the intersection by Crawfordsville Road than farther south on Country Club Road where the accident happened.
"You don't see people walking, but -you know- they generally are off the road, you know," McHenry said.
Near the intersection of Crawfordsville Road and Country Club Road, a bridge was replaced with a pedestrian tunnel.
The Department of Public Works said there is an underpass structure under the road that will allow for a future trail along the abandoned rail line. There currently aren't any plans for sidewalks along Country Club Road.
McHenry wants people to be careful where ever they may be walking.
"Sidewalks would help in any stretch, but I think there are much more, much more traffic areas that need sidewalks (than here)," McHenry said.
McHenry said there is an area near the crash where there have been accidents. She said it is closer to a winding part of the road, which is about a mile or more from the site.
