The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released the identity of a man who was shot and killed while trying to break into a westside apartment Friday morning.
Police identified the man as 31-year-old Clint Anderson.
Officers were dispatched to the 7600 block of Wyckford Court in the Wyckford Commons Apartment Complex to investigate a burglary in progress with a possible person shot.
According to initial reports, Anderson kicked in the door and was shot by the resident.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Linda Jackson told Fox59 News that Anderson was the ex-boyfriend of a woman who lived inside the apartment. Police said there was a standing protective order between them.
Authorities said Anderson had a record with police.
"There was an incident earlier this year in January where the subject broke in through the front door went into apartment the protective order stems from that incident and has been in place since then," said Sgt. Jackson.
There were four children inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured. They didn’t witness the shooting.
